Elderberry Tea

We’ve had a small case of covid in our house over the past few days and this morning I woke up feeling fine but then had the sneeze. You know the sneeze that changes everything? The one that suddenly fills your head and makes your eyelids feel different! So I’ll be spending the day resting but wanted to get this recipe out there for those of you that are fighting allergies, seasonal colds or even the C word. Last weekend I made batches of all my immune boosting favorites and since they’re nearing empty, I’m making more, including elderberry tea! My oldest and I could drink this tea every day of the year. I add a tablespoon (or 2!) of my immunity boost syrup and sip away!
Elderberry tea is a delicious caffeine-free drink with immune supporting benefits! Elderberry may have the potential to shorten the length of a viral illness and alleviate the intensity of cold and flu symptoms and Elderberry contains powerful antioxidants and vitamins that may help reduce inflammation.
I prefer to make a bigger batch that lasts a few days, but it’s so simple to make you can easily make a smaller batch by adjusting the ingredients.
I usually purchase my dried elderberries from amazon, but I can also get them locally. I’m finding that more and more communities are starting to have stores that support holistic health so I highly recommend checking your local listings!
- 8 cups of filtered water
- 1/2 cup dried elderberries
Combine dried elderberries and water to a saucepan, then bring to a gentle boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Optional – add a cinnamon stick or piece of ginger root! Drain through a fine mesh strainer (I use this bowl) to separate the berries. Once cooled down a little, I’ll pour some tea into my favorite mug and add either my Immune boost syrup or some local honey to sweeten up a little. Lemon is a great option as well.
