Hot Chollagen

A few years ago…actually it’s more like 5 or 6…holy moly how the years have whooshed by. Gosh, that gave me pause. Anyone else ever forget just how quickly the years are flying by?!

As I was saying, when the boys were younger I was often looking for ways to get quality protein and healthy fats in them without adding sugar. I have found that one way to encourage my boys to eat certain foods while supporting where they’re at is by making it taste like dessert !! YUM!! I started making the boys protein smoothies by adding a homemade hot chocolate mix to them. I eventually fazed out the hot chocolate while adding more nutrient dense ingredients, meanwhile their taste buds had adjusted and couldn’t tell! I have always told them what they’re eating so they know all the good stuff is in there, but I’m all for hiding foods in plain sight if need be…does that make sense?!

As much as we all love a tasty dessert, how we start our day has a huge impact on how our body functions (hello energy crash right as school/work starts!!) as well as the food we crave throughout the day. When we aren’t giving our body nourishing whole foods, it will keep telling us that it needs something as it searches for what it’s lacking. Eating empty calories in the am is common, I get it! Having a hearty breakfast seems like something of the past and an impossible task in these ultra busy times, especially if your kids take a bus to school. I’m sure some of you are getting out the door while it’s still dark….allow me to introduce to you the easiest healthy hot chocolate or if you prefer it cold, chocolate milk!

This ChoCollagen takes only minutes to put together and is equally delicious! It’s the perfect drink as it’s starting to cool down in the US. Plus, your kiddos (or You!) won’t know that it’s not full of fillers, artificial ingredients and refined sugar. Sadly store-bought hot chocolate is highly processed and has been stripped of antioxidants and minerals and unfortunately not supporting our gut health, but this simple addition to your day can give your body the boost it needs!

Heat on low until mixed together and warm, then add 1 tsp coconut oil. Sip and enjoy!! If serving cold, use a frother to mix together and skip the coconut oil. Serves 2.
