My Number 1 That Can Change Your Overall Health
Water. So simple and yet it is one of the hardest habits for people to create and maintain.
I’m a big fan of explaining the why behind my recommendations in my coaching (as well as parenting 🙃). When people know why something benefits them there is a much higher likelihood that they will follow through. Once you start to notice the benefits, it becomes even easier!
Some benefits of drinking water include:
- Improve memory and mood
- Flush toxins
- Improve blood pressure
- Natural appetite suppressant
- Increase weight loss
- Curbs cravings
- Hydrates skin (hello anti-aging!!)
- Decrease constipation
- Improves digestion
- Decreases headaches
I’ve never been a bottled water person, my number one reason being the plastic waste. I recycle, but I also try to decrease the amount of waste that my family contributes to this world. There is lots misleading information out there (no surprise, right?!) but more and more research has been published about how unhealthy bottled water is and how it actually contains harmful substances that have the potential to make you sick. Companies that bottle water don’t have to adhere to the same standards. Bottled water may contain arsenic, plastic molecules (linked to cardiovascular disease to cancer and autoimmune conditions), E. coli, mold, fluoride….almost 50% of bottled water is tap to begin with!
A few months ago I was having some strange symptoms, one being difficulty breathing after drinking my water. Strange. I decided to have our water tested and while it tested “normal” I knew something needed to change if only because I realized that we’ve been drinking chlorinated water! Yuck! We purchased a refrigerator with a filtration system when we bought our home and it never occurred to me that the water would be chlorinated. Chlorine kills harmful bacteria in the water, which means it’s killing the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Drinking chlorinated water increases your risk of cancer, increases your risk of asthma, weakens your immune system (70%+ of our immune system is housed in our gut!) and can dry out your skin, hair and scalp. I use a Berkey filtration system and it works great! We drink a lot of water and I use filtered water when cooking, also. I also put a filter on our shower and wow! What a difference in my skin, hair and even my breathing! This is similar to the filter I have on our shower https://amzn.to/3ur4hkg
I highly encourage you to think about the quality of the water that you and your loved ones are drinking! Our gut health impacts everything in our body so without good gut health, our overall health will be greatly impacted!
